Platter’s South African Wine Guide 2022

Benguela Cove's 5 Star Award by Platter’s Guide 2022

Platters South African Wine Guide 2022 results are in. Benguela Cove Wine Estate has received 5 stars for the limited release flagship Catalina Semillon. With another eleven wines receiving 4 ½ stars. This is a great accomplishment for our winemaker and his team.

Unlocking the Platter’s Guide to 2022

The Platter’s Wine Guide introduces South Africa’s top wine performers for 2022.

Platter’s is considered the premier resource for discovering new wines, discovering hidden gems that perform above their price level or simply follow the trajectory of the wines we've come to love. This guide has become a household institution.

Platter's, as its name implies, is a guide that serves as a manual of different types of wines in South Africa, the latest statistics of the industry, and a source of detailed information about farms that are a must-visit for oenophiles.

Among the many useful features in the book is the vintage and wine-style guide, which is particularly helpful for consumers who are not familiar with wine and want to make more informed choices before purchasing a bottle. This is a really good platform to highlight the massive diversity of the South African Winelands.

Wines that received 5 stars had to score at least 95 points on the internationally recognized 100-point scale. Five-star ratings were given to 125 wines and one brandy all in all.

While it is an honor to be awarded five stars, the four and a half stars deserve attention too and should not be overlooked.

More About Our Vineyards:
The vineyard in the Walker Bay region, Hermanus, is owned by entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE, with cellar master Johann Fourie running the wine farm and viticulture operations.

Johann Fourie says:

“For all our entries to receive 4 stars and higher is a great achievement given the relatively small size of our vineyard and that 100% of our wine is produced from estate-grown fruit.

We are very proud of the success we have achieved across various wine competitions and reviews this year, especially considering our maiden vintage being as recent as 2017.

The entire team is constantly focusing on refining its approach to all aspects of grape growing and winemaking. We know that the pursuit of excellence is never done, but acknowledgements like these motivate us to persist in our journey and affirm that Benguela Cove is moving in the right direction in terms of wine style and quality.”
