The Syrah Double: Two Cases of Benguela Cove Syrah and a Glass Decanter, R3,500

What arrives 

Cool-climate Syrah from Walker Bay 

Our Syrah vineyards sit on north facing slopes above the Bot River Lagoon, 2 km from the Atlantic. Cool sea air slows ripening, so the grapes hang longer and build structure rather than sugar. The soils shift from iron laterites to chalk and granite across the block, which is where the wine gets its layers.

Cellar Master Johann Fourie ferments a mix of whole bunches and destemmed berries, then matures the wine for 20 months in French oak, 30% of it new. The result opens with plum, liquorice and rose petals, lifted by white pepper and fynbos, the fine-leaved Cape shrubland that grows on the estate. Silky tannins carry blueberry fruit through to a long finish with a trace of cocoa. It drinks well now and will hold for up to eight years from vintage.

The range has the record to match. The 2021 Estate Syrah took Gold at Veritas 2024, scored 91 points with Tim Atkin and earned 4.5 stars and 94 points in Platter's. 

Why two cases 

A single case of six disappears fast. Two lets you pour generously through spring and still lay a few bottles down for the years the wine has ahead of it. 

Serve at 15 to 16°C with lamb tagine, Rogan Josh, Moroccan chicken bastilla or a slow stew. Give it half an hour in the decanter first, which is what the decanter is there for. 

Frequently asked questions 

Do you deliver anywhere in South Africa? Yes. Nationwide delivery is included in the R3,500, to any address you nominate at checkout.

Which vintage will I receive? We ship the current release, so the vintage depends on stock at the time of your order.

Will I definitely get the decanter? Decanters go while stocks last. If they run out, we will fulfil your wine order at the standard price for the wine, without a decanter. Order early if the decanter matters to you.
