Chasing Cheetah
Bronze Chasing Cheetah Sculpture by Carol Bryant
This is the largest sculpture in Carol Bryant's collection, a bronze cheetah stretched to 124 cm along its body, spine arched into the position that gives the species its extra reach in a chase. Bryant built the piece from the same observation behind her smaller maquette of the subject, a cheetah chasing a training lure rather than live prey, giving her the time to study the spine's movement properly.
At this scale, the stretch reads across the room rather than close up. The bronze holds the tension in the back legs and the extended foreleg reaching for the next stride, and the cat looks caught mid-motion rather than posed. It's a striking piece for an entrance, a terrace or a garden view line where scale matters. At 35 kg, it's one of the heaviest pieces in the collection, so buyers should plan for professional installation when placing it.
Large Chasing Cheetah is one of the anchor pieces in 'Where the wild things come to rest', Carol Bryant's exhibition at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, on show from 2 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. The smaller Chasing Cheetah Maquette sits elsewhere in the same collection for buyers who prefer a compact version of the same study.
From the Artist
"I've seen cheetahs hunt on safari, but this piece was inspired by watching one chase a lure. Because the dash was a bit slower, I could finally witness the amazing way their spines stretch to lock in that extra burst of speed. It's the ultimate edge over their prey, well, sometimes."
