Where the wild things come to rest

From October 2026, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate will be home to an extraordinary outdoor sculpture exhibition by British wildlife artist Carol Bryant. The 'Where the wild things come to rest' exhibition features eighteen bronze and resin works placed across the estate, from the lagoon's edge to the fynbos walk, the restaurant terrace to the villa gardens.

These are not sculptures in a gallery. They inhabit the landscape as their subjects once inhabited the wild; with stillness, with presence, with the feeling that they have always belonged here.

All works are available for purchase throughout the six-month exhibition.

A Fully Sensory Experience

Every sense engaged. Deliberately.

Benguela Cove is built around the meeting of land and sea; a place where every element of the guest experience is chosen with intention. The Carol Bryant exhibition adds the one dimension that wine alone cannot deliver.

Sight

The lagoon, the light off Walker Bay, sculptures at dusk in the fynbos.

Taste

Award-winning cool-climate wines from Johann Fourie's cellar.

Scent

Salt air from the bay, fynbos on the breeze, the mineral character of Walker Bay terroir.

Sound

The lagoon in motion, the birdlife of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Touch

Bronze invites a hand. It has weight, temperature, texture. Carol Bryant's sculptures give this place its fifth dimension.

Carol Bryant

The Artist

Carol Bryant is an award-winning animal sculptor and pastel painter whose work draws on decades of field study across Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia, and England.

She has studied African wildlife extensively in the wild and in conservation settings, and has worked as a volunteer with cheetah and wild dogs at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre near Pretoria.

Her portrait bust of Archbishop Desmond Tutu is mounted beside his grave at St George's Cathedral, Cape Town. She exhibits regularly at prestigious venues including Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens in West Sussex.

"Carol's sculptures add something that wine alone cannot: the invitation to stop, to look closely, to reach out a hand. Her African subjects feel entirely at home in this landscape, and that is exactly the point."
