Where the Wild Things Come to Rest Exhibition

Carol Bryant set herself a specific problem with this piece, how to show the sheer strength of a rhinoceros without the scale a life-size cast would demand. The answer is a compact resin study that leans on stance and mass rather than size, a low, wide-set body that reads as powerful even at 35 cm long. 

Rhinos carry a weight of history in their build, the thick folds of skin, the horn, the small eyes set deep in a heavy skull, features that make them look, as Bryant puts it, pre-historic. The sculpture keeps all of that detail at a scale suited to a desk, a shelf or a garden bed rather than a full landscape installation.

Both black and white rhino remain under sustained poaching pressure across southern Africa, which gives even a small study like this one a conservation weight beyond its size. At 2 kg, it's one of the lightest and most accessible pieces in the collection, a practical starting point for a first purchase or a gift.

Rhino is part of 'Where the wild things come to rest', Carol Bryant's exhibition at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, running from 2 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. It's one of twenty sculptures placed across the estate for the length of the show, every one available to buy.
