Chasing the First Breath of Autumn: New Menus, a Touch of Lagoon Magic, and Every Reason to Visit Benguela Cove
The new Autumn menu at Moody Lagoon Restaurant is an expression of seasonal, sustainable indulgence. There's something almost magical about the moment the seasons begin to shift. The light softens ever so slightly, the air carries a new kind of stillness, and - if you happen to be at Benguela Cove - the kitchen is always cooking up something exquisite.
Autumn hasn't officially arrived yet, but out on the lagoon's edge, the harvest season is already casting its spell. Executive Head Chef Christo Hattingh and his team have taken that inspiration and run with it, unveiling the early release of the 2026 Autumn À La Carte Menu at Moody Lagoon Restaurant.
It's a menu that bridges the gap between the brightness of late summer and the deeper, more comforting flavours that define the cooler months ahead - and quite frankly, it's a very good reason to take a day trip and head to Walker Bay for a new and comforting experience.
A Menu That Honours Mother Nature's Timing
Chef Christo describes it best himself:
"Nature chooses its own timing, and we honour that. These dishes celebrate the first expressions of autumn's finest ingredients."
This philosophy is evident from the very first bite.
Let’s start with the ocean; Saldanha Bay Oysters - plump, briny, and impeccably fresh - are paired beautifully with your choice of Benguela Cove's estate Cap Classique's. It's a pairing that feels both celebratory and effortlessly right. Or, if you're after something with a little more vibrancy, the Seared Tuna with horseradish purée and pineapple salsa delivers a bright, bold contrast that bridges the seasons with confidence.
On to the mains; where the real autumn magic unfolds. The Smoked Lamb Loin Chops, served with an estate red wine and sherry jus, are the kind of dish that makes you lean back and exhale with satisfaction. Rich, rounded, and deeply flavoured, they pair magnificently with the estate's reds. If you prefer something equally indulgent, the Pepper-Crusted Fillet paired with Estate Syrah is a signature combination - powerful, precise, and utterly memorable.
Not all the stars have four legs, though. The Brown Mushroom duxelle, lightly crusted in panko and served alongside a charred red pepper sauce, is a vegetarian triumph that proves restraint and creativity are not mutually exclusive. It's elegant, earthy, and genuinely satisfying.
And then there's dessert! Guests are spoilt for choice between the Twisted Black Forest -a playful reimagining of a classic - and the Passionfruit Mousse with popping candy, both of which pair beautifully with the estate's Noble Late Harvest. It's the kind of finale that lingers in the memory long after the drive home.
The Autumn À La Carte Menu is served at Moody Lagoon restaurant for lunch, daily from 12:00.
Weekend Brunch at the Lagoon - Newly Refreshed and Better Than Ever
If the autumn menu has your attention for the week, the updated Weekend Brunch Menu is giving people even more reason to make Benguela Cove their Saturday and Sunday ritual.
Served every Saturday, Sunday, and Public Holiday from 09:30 to 11:30, brunch here isn't just a meal - it's a full experience. Picture yourself seated with sweeping views of the lagoon, the morning light dancing on the water, a freshly poured glass of something special in hand. That's the Benguela Cove brunch promise, and the updated menu delivers on it beautifully.
For those who like to start light, there are seasonal fruit smoothies and a generous fruit platter to ease you into the morning. For those with heartier appetites, the classics are all present: a perfectly executed Eggs Benedict, a Breakfast Burrito with all the right fillings, and the Full Benguela - a proper, satisfying spread for those who believe brunch should be an occasion, not an afterthought.
And then there's the Flapjack Stack - golden, fluffy flapjacks layered with maple syrup, crème fraîche, and fresh berries. It has rapidly become a firm favourite, and honestly, once you've tried it, the reason is obvious.
Relaxed, scenic, and full of flavour, brunch at Benguela Cove is simply one of the finest ways to begin a weekend in the Western Cape.
Beyond the Table - There's a Whole Estate to Explore
Of course, Benguela Cove is far more than just extraordinary food and award-winning wine - although that alone would be more than enough. The estate is a genuine destination, with open spaces and activities that make it a perfect outing for the whole family.
Meander through the vineyards at the edge of the Walker Bay Lagoon. Join a wine tasting and discover why Benguela Cove’s estate wines - from the Cap Classique's to the Syrah and Noble Late Harvest - have earned such devoted followings. The scenery is nothing short of bucket-list territory: sweeping views of the lagoon and surrounding mountains that remind you, in the very best way, exactly where you are.
It's the kind of place that invites you to slow down, take it all in, and linger just a little longer than you'd planned.
