National Women’s Day marks a historic turning point in South African history. On 9 August 1956, over 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest unfair pass laws. Standing in silent resolve before singing "Wathint' abafazi, wathint' imbokodo" ("You strike a woman, you strike a rock"), they established a legacy of courage and civic action. Today, National Women’s Day honours those pioneers and reinforces the ongoing drive toward equality and empowerment across all industries.

Penny Streeter OBE – Founder & Owner 

Overcoming significant adversity early in her career, Penny Streeter OBE built a globally successful business empire through determination, innovation, and unwavering ambition, starting with the international recruitment firm A24 Group. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to enterprise and philanthropy, she was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire).  

She later established Benguela Cove on a raw stretch of Walker Bay coastline, where her hands-on leadership transformed the property into an award-winning 200-hectare destination. Under her guidance, Benguela Cove earned accolades as a WWF Conservation Champion, achieved Travelife Gold Certification, joined the World’s Best Vineyards list in 2023 & 2024, and served as an official host venue for world leaders during the 2025 P20/G20 summit.

Michelle Waldeck – General Manager & Winemaker 

Michelle Waldeck joined Benguela Cove as Assistant Winemaker in 2017, stepped into the Winemaker role in 2024, and became General Manager in 2025. Holding a BSc in Viticulture and Oenology from Stellenbosch University alongside business credentials from UCT, she combines cellar precision with commercial strategy. Named on WineLand Media’s 30 Under 30 list and a two-time Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year finalist, Michelle drives sustainable farming practices across our vineyards in the Kogelberg Biosphere.  

Trudie Mulder – Winemaker 

Appointed Winemaker in May 2025, Trudie Mulder holds a BAgric in Cellar Technology from Elsenburg Agricultural College. Raised on the West Coast, she focuses on producing cool-climate wines that reflect the unique maritime climate and soils of Walker Bay. Trudie prioritises patience, discipline, and natural expression in every vintage.
