Light The Way: The Lighthouse Range Has a New Look
Posted by Benguela Cove Investments On 2026-05-01T08:30:03Z
You should not have to guess what a wine tastes like before you pour it.
The Lighthouse Range launched as the entry point to cool-climate winemaking at Benguela Cove. Today, it steps forward with a look that does justice to what's already in the bottle.
The wines haven't changed. The winemaking hasn't changed. The terroir - shaped by the cold Benguela Current and 2.7 km of private lagoon waterfront inside the Kogelberg UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - certainly hasn't changed. What you'll notice is the label: a cleaner, more resolved design that carries the same identity it always had, but wears it with more confidence.
When you pick up a bottle, the design should immediately ground you in the specific terroir of its origin. For too long, the gap between the atmospheric experience of visiting Benguela Cove and the branding on our bottles felt too wide. Today, we close that gap.
We are proud to introduce the new Lighthouse Collection, a complete design evolution that finally reflects the true character of our Walker Bay estate. As we invite you to "Light the Way" with us, we are moving beyond the silence of a sketch to embrace the full, vibrant spectrum of our home.
A Revelation, not a Redesign
We collaborated with the design studio Adamsrib to rethink our visual identity from the ground up. We decided early on that this could not be a marketing exercise; it had to be a translation of place into form. We asked the team to look at the estate’s most defining features: the moody lagoon, the salt-crusted rocks, and the sharp, cold light of a coastal sunset.
It is important to state that while the exterior has evolved, the wine inside remains exactly the same. We have touched nothing within the bottle. Johann Fourie, our head winemaker, continues to craft these wines with the same masterful precision you expect from Benguela Cove. Johann’s philosophy - bridging the gap between the science and the artistry of winemaking - is the invisible hand behind these bottles. He manages our cool-climate vineyards with a focus that translates the salt - spray and sea - breeze directly into the glass. The new look is simply a better vessel for the same exceptional liquid.
The Wines Behind the Label
To truly understand how we "Light the Way," you must first see the world as we do. Each varietal in the Lighthouse Collection now carries its own colour story. We analysed the light conditions at the estate during different times of the day and seasons. The labels are no longer uniform; they are reactive. We have mapped the emotional temperature of our environment onto the bottle.
-
Sauvignon Blanc: These labels capture the cool, piercing blues and greens of the lagoon waters, reflecting the freshness and the saline minerality of the fruit.
-
Rosé: We chose the soft, shifting pinks of the sky at dusk, capturing the delicate and fleeting light of a coastal sunset. It is a visual cue to the lightness and vibrancy found in every glass.
-
Moody Lagoon (Red Blend): These bottles carry deep, resonant reds and purples. It is the colour of an evening hush - complex, layered, and intense, mirroring the depth of the wine itself.
-
Merlot and Shiraz: These varietals lean into the darker blues of the twilight sky. They feature the silhouette of our small red boat - a nod to the quiet moments spent on the water, watching the day end over the horizon.
Rooted in Nature, Led by Vision
This redesign is a reflection of our stewardship. As a WWF Conservation Champion, Benguela Cove operates under a deep commitment to the land. Our owner, Penny Streeter OBE, has championed a culture of Hannuwa - the gathering of good fortune through living in sustainable harmony with our environment. From the 208 hectares we have dedicated to conservation to the meticulous, chemical - free farming methods Johann employs, we ensure that every bottle respects the unique biodiversity of the Kogelberg Biosphere.
Penny’s vision, born of an entrepreneurial spirit that spans continents, has transformed this estate into a sanctuary. She believes that we are merely the custodians of this land, and that every bottle of wine should serve as a testament to its beauty.
Experience the Shift
This collection represents a shift toward a more confident, quiet pride. Like our onsite lighthouse, these bottles do not shout for attention on a crowded shelf. They stand steady. They invite you to look closer. We believe that when you hold a bottle from this new collection, you are holding a piece of vine anchored at the Atlantic.
The labels are now live, and the wines are resting in our cellar, ready to be poured. We invite you to experience the estate in a new light. We have created something that does not just sit on a shelf; it invites a conversation about place, climate, and the craft of winemaking in one of South Africa’s most unique viticultural zones.

Lighthouse Range Frequently Asked Questions
Are the wines themselves different in the new release? No. The Lighthouse Collection varietals are the same wine, made to the same standard, from the same cool-climate vineyards. The label design has been refreshed - the wine inside is exactly as you remember it.
What makes Benguela Cove wines 'cool-climate'? The estate sits within reach of the cold Benguela Current, an Atlantic upwelling that keeps coastal temperatures significantly lower than most South African wine regions. Lower temperatures slow ripening, preserve natural acidity, and produce wines with more tension and structure.
Where can I buy the new Lighthouse Collection labels? Online at benguelacove.co.za, at the estate cellar on the Cape Whale Coast (15 minutes from Hermanus), and at select South African wine retailers. You can also find out more about our Seasonal Discovery wine club subscription, which offers great value and added benefits.
Can I visit the estate to try both wines? Yes. Wine tastings run daily at the Benguela Cove cellar. You can book by calling 087 357 0637 or emailing info@benguelacove.co.za. The estate is approximately 90 minutes from Cape Town.
What other wines does Benguela Cove make? Alongside the Lighthouse Collection, the estate produces the Estate Range - including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah - and the flagship Vinography range, which represents single-vineyard releases aged for long-term cellaring.
