Unveiling The New Lighthouse Collection Wine Labels
Illuminating Our Legacy with The Lighthouse Collection
If you have ever stood on the edge of the Bot River Lagoon as the sun dips below the horizon, you know that Walker Bay speaks in a specific, immutable language. The wind drops, the light turns sharp, and the water holds a stillness that demands your attention. It is a moment of total clarity.
For years, the Benguela Cove Lighthouse Collection bottle sitting on your table has featured our lighthouse - a sentinel that has long stood as the signature of Benguela Cove Wine Estate. Our previous labels offered a sketch of that beacon and the sprawling lagoon, a quiet, linear tribute to the place we call home. But as our estate has grown, we felt our branding should do more than just display a name or a silhouette. A wine label should act as a compass, pointing you directly toward the emotional landscape where the grapes were born.
At Benguela Cove, we spent the last year asking ourselves a fundamental question: How do we bring our story to life with more intensity? We decided it was time to let our lighthouse shine brighter than ever.
The Lighthouse as Our Eternal Anchor
The lighthouse that stands on the roof of our winery is not just a decorative ornament; it is our heartbeat. It has always guided our journey, marked our location and provided a fixed point in the ever - changing coastal environment of Walker Bay. It is, and has always been, the anchor of our story.
We are moving away from the reserved, linear sketches of the past and toward a more vivid, deeply rooted identity. By keeping the lighthouse as the central beacon of our design, we are reclaiming our identity as a producer defined by the Atlantic, the lagoon and the maritime climate that gives our fruit its character. We aren't changing our foundation; we are adding depth to it.
The Logic of Colour
We are currently transforming our identity to reveal the true, living character of our location. Our estate lives by the rhythm of the Benguela current, which pulls cold air from the Atlantic across our vines, tempering the heat and extending the ripening season also known as cool sunshine. We realised that while our sketch-based labels were elegant, they did not fully communicate the atmospheric, shifting moods of our home.
We needed to translate the fog, the salt, the cooling wind, and the sunset into a visual format. The solution was colour. By introducing an expressive wash of watercolours to our packaging, we are painting a more honest portrait of the estate. When you see a Benguela Cove bottle, you will no longer just see the lighthouse; you will feel the immediate, vibrant presence of the lagoon. Preparing for the Unveiling
This process is not a trend - led redesign. It is a revelation. We partnered with the team at Adamsrib to translate our estate’s emotional temperature into a new visual language. They understood that the wine is not just liquid in a bottle; it is a memory of a place. Together, we have spent months refining a design that captures the interplay between the sky, the water, and the vine.
In the coming weeks, you will see a transformation that aligns our bottles with the raw, honest quality of the cool-climate wines we produce. We invite you to join us as we "Light the Way." We are launching a new narrative for the Lighthouse Collection - a series of wines that reflect the landscape they inhabit.
