Benguela Cove Wins Two Double Gold and Two Gold Medals
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate has earned four medals at the 2026 Veritas Awards, one of South Africa’s most respected wine competitions. Joie de Vivre 2022 and Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 each received Double Gold, while Lighthouse range Moody Lagoon 2023 and Estate Collage 2023 were awarded Gold.
Across Cap Classique, Cabernet Sauvignon and two expressive red blends, the results reflect the quality and range of our Walker Bay wines.
Joie de Vivre 2022: Fourth Consecutive Double Gold
Joie de Vivre 2022 earned Double Gold, and this is the fourth consecutive vintage to achieve that status at the Veritas Awards. Few Cap Classique producers can claim such consistency.
Only six Double Gold medals were awarded in the Cap Classique category, placing this award-winning sparkling wine among a select group of South African producers.
Meaning “joy of living”, Joie de Vivre is a refined Cap Classique made for celebrations, elegant gatherings and moments that deserve something exceptional.
Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021: Double Gold in a Fiercely Contested Category
Cabernet Sauvignon drew 110 entries, and only seven wines received Double Gold. The Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is one of them.
Part of our limited-production Vinography collection, this wine is a focused expression of variety, vintage and origin, crafted through considered, small-volume winemaking. Limited quantities make it a wine to secure early.
Gold for Moody Lagoon 2023 and Estate Collage 2023
Red blends were the most keenly contested category, with 148 entries. Two Benguela Cove blends stood out.
Lighthouse range Moody Lagoon 2023 takes its name from the lagoon beside the estate, as does our Moody Lagoon restaurant. It captures the generous, welcoming character of this coastal setting.
Estate Collage 2023 reflects the art of bringing individual components together in a balanced, harmonious blend.
Each has its own identity, showing the depth of our red blend winemaking.
About the Veritas Awards
Presented by the South African National Wine Show Association, the 2026 Veritas Awards attracted 1,293 entries. Wines were assessed during a five-day blind tasting by 77 South African and five international specialists.
A total of 95 Double Gold and 196 Gold medals were presented. Securing four across three competitive categories, under blind judging, is a result we are proud of.
Award-Winning Wines Shaped by the Coast
Our vineyards sit in Walker Bay near Hermanus, defined by their maritime location and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. This coastal identity connects all four wines, from the celebratory elegance of Joie de Vivre to the focused character of Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon and the distinctive expressions of Moody Lagoon and Estate Collage.
Special acknowledgement goes to Cellar Master Johann Fourie and the cellar team, whose craftsmanship, consistency and dedication shape every bottle.
