Winter Warmer Wine Deal of the Month
Posted by Benguela Cove Investments On 2026-07-01T08:00:04Z
Winter alters the rhythm at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate. The summer crowds depart, the vines enter dormancy, and cold Atlantic winds sweep across Walker Bay. For a winemaker, this quiet season offers the best opportunity to review our work, pull corks, and evaluate how our coastal terroir behaves in the glass when the temperature drops. To mark the season, our July Winter Warmer Selection bundles three exceptional reds for R 905.00, reflecting a 5% promotional discount.
Many people associate South African red wine with the intense heat of the interior valleys. Those regions produce broad, high-alcohol wines that offer immediate warmth. At Benguela Cove, located on the direct edge of the ocean, we take a different approach. Cold Atlantic currents cool our vineyards, slowing fruit ripening. This preserves natural acidity and builds fine-grained, architectural tannins.
When winter arrives in the Western Cape, these cool-climate characteristics show their true value. They do not overwhelm the palate; instead, they provide structure, freshness, and balance. To celebrate the season, I have selected three distinct bottles from our cellars for our July allocation.
The July Allocation
This specific bundle represents the diversity of our estate, offering an introduction to our blending philosophy and a glimpse into the ageing potential of our mature vintages.
-
Benguela Cove Collage: Our flagship Bordeaux-style red blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, it delivers dark plum, cedar wood, and fine tannins built for a decade of cellaring.
-
Lighthouse Collection Moody Lagoon: This five-varietal red blend celebrates the approachable, vibrant side of Walker Bay, now wearing our freshly updated, striking new label design. We focus on soft extraction to retain a bright fruit profile of wild cherry and soft herbs.
-
Benguela Cove Syrah 2018: A beautifully settled, mature cool-climate Syrah. Extended bottle ageing has allowed the primary fruit to step back, bringing forward savoury layers of black pepper, ground cinnamon, and black olive tapenade.
Real Wine Pairing & Offer Details
Cool-climate red wines possess a distinct culinary advantage: natural acidity. The freshness in our Walker Bay wines cuts through fats and cleanses your palate between bites. Match the firm structure of the Collage with slow-roasted lamb shanks. Open the medium-bodied Moody Lagoon alongside wood-fired mushroom pizzas, and pair the savoury, peppery profile of our Syrah 2018 with a rich venison potjie.
-
Price: R 905.00 (Includes a 5% promotional winter discount).
-
Logistics: Secure, temperature-controlled nationwide delivery, or collect directly from our Hermanus cellar door within two hours of ordering.
-
Validity: Available from 1 July until 31 July 2026, while cellar stocks last.
Winter Wine FAQs
What does "cool-climate red wine" mean for the taste profile?
Our coastal position prevents vineyards from overheating. Slower ripening allows grapes to develop complex flavours while maintaining high natural acidity. This translates to lower alcohol levels, fresher fruit characters, and savoury notes like pepper and herbs.
How long can I store the wines in this selection?
Drink the Moody Lagoon within two to three years to enjoy its fresh fruit character. The Syrah 2018 is currently at its peak but will hold comfortably for five years. Cellar the Collage confidently for up to a decade.
Should I decant these red wines?
Yes. Decant the Collage and the Syrah 2018 for at least one hour before drinking to open the aroma profiles and smooth the tannin structures. Serve these reds between 16°C and 18°C.
Why did you change the Moody Lagoon label?
We updated the packaging to better reflect our coastal identity and the modern, artistic direction of Benguela Cove. The premium liquid inside the bottle remains consistent with the vibrant style our customers expect.
Can I buy this July deal directly at the estate?
Yes. The R 905.00 promotional price applies uniformly online and at our physical estate shop in Hermanus. You can purchase online and select the collection option at checkout to bypass shipping fees.
