Winter settles over Walker Bay. The lagoon goes dark early. And at the Moody Lagoon Restaurant, forty guests take their seats for one of the most compelling wine dinners in the Cape Winelands. 

On 6 June 2026, award-winning Winemaker and Cellar Master, Johann Fourie, hosts an evening built entirely around Benguela Cove's red wines. Chef Christo Hatting builds each of the four courses around the wine in the glass — seasonal, grounded, and made for a cold winter's night. This is not a tasting event. It is a dinner, with everything that implies: warmth, conversation, full plates, and the kind of access to a winemaker that a cellar door visit rarely gives you. 

Forty seats. One evening. No repeat performance. 

What to expect at the Winter Winemakers’ Dinner 

  • Arrival at 18:30 with a glass of Benguela Cove Cap Classique 
  • Johann Fourie presents four red wines, each paired with a dish by Chef Christo Hatting 
  • A Noble Late Harvest rounds off the evening at dessert 
  • The evening closes at 22:00 
  • The guest list is capped at 40 — by design

Johann brings the cellar to the table. Across the evening, he walks guests through the vintage decisions, the terroir of the Walker Bay wine region, and what distinguishes Benguela Cove's reds from the wider South African wine landscape. It is the kind of conversation that turns a dinner into something you remember. 

Chef Christo Hatting's winter menu takes its cue from the season. Expect rich, considered dishes that hold their own alongside full-bodied reds — food that complements the wine rather than competes with it. 

The Moody Lagoon Restaurant sits at the heart of Benguela Cove Wine Estate, overlooking the lagoon. In winter, with the fire lit and a full room, it earns its name. 

Seats at this wine pairing dinner are limited to 40 guests. When they sell out, they are gone.
