A Winter of Content: The Winemakers’ Dinner at Benguela Cove
Posted by Benguela Cove Investments On 2026-05-06T10:57:25Z
Winter transforms Walker Bay. As the sun sets early over the lagoon, the air carries a crisp edge that calls for warmth, comfort, and a glass of exceptional red wine. On Saturday, 6 June 2026, Benguela Cove Wine Estate invites you to the Moody Lagoon Restaurant for an evening that celebrates the season.
This is the Winter Winemakers’ Dinner. It is an intimate event designed for those who appreciate the intersection of fine viticulture and honest, seasonal cooking.
A Night Focused on Red Wine
While many wine events offer a broad survey of a portfolio, this evening narrows its focus. We highlight the red wines that define our estate. Cellar Master Johann Fourie hosts the dinner, bringing his expertise directly to your table.
Johann oversees every aspect of our cool-climate production. During the meal, he explains the nuances of the Walker Bay terroir and the specific vintage decisions that shape our award-winning bottles. You will learn why the Atlantic breeze and shale soils create wines with such distinct structure and elegance.
This event removes the traditional barriers of a cellar door tasting. You sit with the winemaker, ask questions, and hear the stories behind the labels while enjoying the wine in its intended setting: alongside a meal.
The Menu: Built for the Glass
Chef Christo Hatting and the Moody Lagoon team have developed a four-course menu specifically for this evening. In most restaurants, the wine follows the food. Here, the process reverses. The team tastes the wines first, then builds dishes that elevate the specific notes in each pour.
What you can expect from the evening:
-
18:30 Arrival: Start the night with a crisp glass of Benguela Cove Cap Classique.
-
The Main Event: Four courses, each paired with a select Benguela Cove red wine.
-
Expert Insight: Johann Fourie provides a narrative for every wine served.
-
A Sweet Conclusion: A pour of our Noble Late Harvest accompanies dessert.
-
22:00 Close: The evening concludes, leaving you warmed against the winter chill.
The Moody Lagoon team uses local, seasonal ingredients. Expect dishes that mirror the weight and complexity of our full-bodied reds—food that satisfies the appetite without overshadowing the craftsmanship in the glass.
Intimacy by Design
We cap the guest list at 40 people. We choose this limit deliberately. A smaller group ensures that every guest can engage with Johann and the Moody Lagoon team. It fosters conversation between neighbours and creates a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.
The restaurant, with its fireplace and views over the dark lagoon, provides the ideal backdrop. It is a night for couples looking for a meaningful date, wine lovers seeking deeper knowledge, and foodies who value precision in pairing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ticket price include all drinks? The R795 price includes a welcome glass of Cap Classique, four premium red wine pairings with the main courses, and a dessert wine. Additional beverages or coffee are available for purchase from the Moody Lagoon bar.
Can you accommodate specific dietary requirements? Yes. Our kitchen team can adapt the menu for allergies or dietary preferences (such as vegetarian or gluten-free). Please notify us of any requirements when you make your reservation so the chefs can prepare accordingly.
Is this a formal "lecture" style tasting? No. While Johann Fourie shares insights into each wine, the event remains a social dinner. The atmosphere is conversational and relaxed. It is designed for you to enjoy your meal and your company while learning about wine in an organic way.
What is the dress code for the evening? We recommend "Smart Casual." As it is a winter event, the restaurant will be heated and the fire will be lit, but we suggest dressing warmly for the short walk from the parking area to the restaurant.
Is there a waiting list if the event sells out? Because we limit the dinner to 40 guests, we do maintain a waiting list. If a cancellation occurs, we contact those on the list in order of sign-up. However, we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
