Easter Weekend 2026

Easter Weekend 2026

Easter Weekend 2026 in Hermanus: What to Do at Benguela Cove

The Western Cape does Easter Weekend well. The N2 fills up on Thursday night, the mountain light shifts into autumn mode, and anyone with half a plan to leave Cape Town usually lands somewhere between Hermanus and Stanford for the long weekend.

Benguela Cove Wine Estate, on the R43 above the Bot River Lagoon, runs the full four days - Good Friday 3 April through Family Day on 6 April 2026. The estate covers 200 hectares of vineyard, olive groves and lagoon frontage, with a restaurant, tasting room, watersports, kids' activities, and self-catering villas on one property. It is worth knowing what attractions, events and restaurant offerings are available before you arrive.

Good Friday, 3 April - Oysters and the New Autumn Menu

Moody Lagoon Restaurant launched its autumn à la carte menu for Good Friday, and the timing suits the occasion. The menu leans into seafood without making it a gimmick.

Saldanha Bay oysters, shucked to order, anchor the offering. The Oyster & Wine Pairing (R450 per person, 12:00-16:00) is the most considered version - four oysters, each prepared differently and matched to four estate wines. The progression runs from a fresh oyster with pineapple and celery against the Cuvée 58 Brut Cap Classique, through a battered oyster with Chardonnay and a panko-and-blue-cheese version alongside the Syrah, to a wood-smoked oyster with the Collage. It takes about an hour and, for wine-curious guests, covers more ground than a standard tasting.

The broader menu runs alongside: line fish of the day with cous cous and white wine velouté, seafood pasta in a white wine and garlic cream sauce, and a pepper-crusted fillet for anyone who arrived on Good Friday without particularly penitent intentions. Desserts include a twisted black forest and a passionfruit meringue with popping candy that consistently divides the table.

Easter Saturday, 4 April - Do as Much or As Little as You Like

Saturday is the least structured day, which makes it the most useful one for families who need to keep multiple ages happy at the same time.

The Tasting Room opens at 10:00 and runs until 20:00. April sits inside the harvest window, so the team runs cellar tours and wine blending workshops with real seasonal context - the winery is actually in use, not staged for visitors. The Joie de Vivre Cap Classique, which took Best Wine of Show at the 2025 Michelangelo Awards, is worth tasting while the current release lasts.

For families, one ticket to Pirate Adventure Golf covers the course and full-day access to the Splash Waterpark. Both sit on the estate, so children can move between them without much parental logistics. The weekly ParkRun goes off on Saturday morning along the 12km estate trail - a legitimate route through vineyards and olive groves above the lagoon, not a car park shuffle.

Blackbeard's Diner runs from 09:30 with burgers, comfort food and lighter plates - the practical lunch stop between activities.

Easter Sunday, 5 April - The Full Spread

Moody Lagoon restaurant is the top choice for Easter Sunday

Brunch (09:30-11:30) covers the early risers with breakfast classics and contemporary plates. It clears before the lunch service begins.

Lunch (12:00-17:00) we are exclusively featuring our curated holiday menu—a seasonal celebration centered on fresh seafood, rich oxtail, and local spring flavors. The Easter Kids Menu includes a complimentary Easter Egg, and the Easter Bunny makes rounds on the estate through the afternoon. It sounds like a small thing; it is not a small thing if you have a five-year-old.

Picnics (11:00-16:00) run from 3-6 April. The estate sets up curated baskets - artisanal treats, cheeses, charcuterie - on the lawns facing the lagoon. It is the format that photographs well and requires the least decision-making once you arrive. Book by email: dine@benguelacove.co.za

Easter Sunday is the busiest day of the year on the estate. Book early.

Family Day, 6 April - A Slower Finish

Family Day works as a decompression day. The tasting room opens at 10:00, the kitchen runs the à la carte menu, picnics are still available with 24 hours' notice, and the activities programme continues. For those who stayed on the estate, it is a morning to use the villa kitchen, walk the olive groves, and leave at a reasonable hour rather than fighting the Sunday evening traffic back to Cape Town.

Staying Over: Pet-Friendly Villas on the Estate

Driving back to Cape Town at the end of each day is the thing most visitors say they would change. The estate runs a great selection of fully serviced and self-catering villas sleeping between 6 and 20 guests - private pools, gourmet kitchens, outdoor braais, wood-fired hot tubs and daily housekeeping. All villas are pet friendly and among the top-rated vacation rentals in the Overberg. The 10-bedroom Manor House adds a 20m indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym and pizza room for larger groups or multi-generational bookings.

Staying on the estate changes the pace of the whole weekend. The restaurant, tasting room, waterpark and trail are all walkable. There is no designated driver conversation on Easter Sunday.

Getting There

Benguela Cove is on the R43, Walker Bay - 90 minutes from Cape Town, 15 minutes from Hermanus. The estate has ample parking and sits inside the Walker Bay and Hemel-en-Aarde wine corridor, so day visitors can combine it with other estates in the area.
