Four dishes from our kitchen. A Cap Classique on arrival, then eight wines poured in pairs, two beside every dish. Nine in all, and none of them from our everyday range.

Every round, one dish lands with two wines beside it, marked only A and B. Your host makes the case for both, then gets out of the way. You taste, you argue with your table, and you drop a cork into the glass cylinder of the wine you think won.

The level of corks is the result. Nothing is collected and nothing is counted. Four pairs of cylinders stand at the front of the room all afternoon, and by ten to three the whole day's verdict is there in glass, filling up while you eat.

Sometimes it is the same wine in two vintages. Sometimes it is the same grape off two hillsides, one here above the lagoon and one at Leonardslee in Sussex, which is the swallow's own route. Once in the afternoon it is a bottle at three times the price of the one next to it.

• Nine wines: a Cap Classique to start, then eight poured in pairs across four courses. All of them Estate Range and above.
• R3,320 of wine list, tasted in one afternoon.
• Four fixed dishes, each built to sit between two styles of wine rather than beside one.
• Every wine you taste is on the order form and buyable on the day.

Take the wine home and we take the lunch off

Spend R1,250 on what you tasted and R250 comes off. Spend R3,750 and the lunch is on us, with free national courier so you need not carry a case to the car. Redeemed in the room on the day, on the Estate Range and above.
